Make planning a habit

This week's Tip:

Our character is determined by our habits. Make planning a habit

Action items:

What we are and what we do is determined by our character. Our character is determined by the habits we form and pursue.

Long time back I read one book which explained how to be a successful leader. It was explained that by our habits make our character. By cultivating proper habits we can achieve success in life and be what we want to be. I think we will agree on this basic principle.

All of us have some habits to which we stick to. Some are need driven and some are self induced.

Having a daily bath is a need driven habit which we have formed. We were not born with habit, but recognizing this as a necessity for hygiene we have learned this habit and it comes to us natural. Imagine a day you had to without bath, we are conscious of the fact and become uneasy.

Some examples of self induced habits:
- Habit if reaching office exactly on time (99% of time) and leaving on time.
- Habit of sleeping at a specific time say 10 PM or habit of waking early at 5 AM
- Habit of daily exercise
- Habit of always being on time for a meeting

There are lot such habits which are not need driven, but self-induced. Such self-induced habits are driven by our values and make us proud of our sincerity towards the same.

Even time management should become one such self-induced habit. Planning our day, our week and our life goals should come naturally to us. Being systematic in our daily routine and doing things in a planned manner makes us successful.

Remember the book "Seven Habits of highly successful people" by Stephen Covey which also conveys the same message:  Habits make people successful.

Summary

Evaluate your self-induced habits and how they shaped your values and success. Make daily planning and goal setting as a habit which will determine your success in life.

Last week's tip:

Goal setting is very important to understand where you are going.

Reminder:

Did you do introspection and listed at least a few goals of your life?
