Have a backlog clearance day
Typically weekdays are busy with work schedules.
Weekends are reserved for personal time. But we can use part of weekend to
clear backlog at work also.
I am trying this just now. When I think of some small tasks (some of which are
very trivial but not high priority tasks) during weekend, I write them down
for the weekend instead of a weekday. This way I managed to put around 15
tasks on my Sunday. Sunday will be backlog clearance day.
Dedicating a couple of hours with list of things to
do can be very effective. Trying to fit these backlogs into weekday can be
avoided.
I am going to try it out in next couple of weeks
and see how it goes.
I recently had another backlog clearance day. I
made a task list of around 15 items that were overdue. I blocked my calendar
for 3 hours to clear tasks. Tried to avoid interruptions and finally made it.
It was a really productive day.
Try this approach once in a while even if you
don’t want to bring too much work home.
You can obviously push only low priority tasks to a
backlog day and not high priority tasks.
Reminder from a previous tip:
Do you remember that in one of my tips, I suggested
easier ways to backup your data. I do follow weekly backup approach and
want to let you know that it saved my day couple of weeks back. My laptop disk
crashed and could not be recovered. Fortunately I lost only a few days of
documents and everything else was backed up. Make sure you backup your
data regularly. You don’t want to loose your precious documents.
