Importance of being Organized
Efforts wasted due to bad organization
Despite my best efforts in being organized, recently I had 3
distinct experiences where I lost precious time due to bad organizing efforts. I
wanted to share them to stress importance of discipline in our life.
Misplaced CDs:
Sometime back I mentioned that I purchased Palm Zire and
started using it to synchronize my outlook tasks. I had used the setup program
to install Hotsync Manager and later misplaced the CD. Recently my desktop
system crashed and I ended up loosing the capability to synchronize my tasks. I
should have been more careful in storing the CD. I have spent hours trying to
locate the CD but still didn't locate it.
We also had another Software that was critical in our office
work. I misplaced that CD also. This resulted in delay of work at office. We had
to order a replacement CD.
Misplaced Injection Slip
During this month I had to take my one year old daughter for
vaccination. During previous doctor visit, we received injection slip. We
misplaced that and we spent a few hours trying to locate that and calling the
hospital. Finally we had to make another appointment so that we can get another
copy. One piece of paper misplaced leads to lot of hours.
Data not lost
On a positive note I should also mention the fact that since I
have been taking regular backups of my data on weekly basis, I didn't loose any
data when my desktop crashed. My discipline in doing backups (I have a
weekly reminder for this) has helped save much more effort.
I am sure some of you might have had similar experiences. We
need to learn from our mistakes and improve.
In time management discipline matters a lot.
