Advantages of Paper Based Planner - 1 In next few tips I want to explain advantages I found in use of Paper based planners. I am not against computer based reminders etc. since I also do use Computer based reminders, and by explaining additional advantages of Paper based planners I hope some of you will start advantages like I do. Limited use of computer based reminders: I use computer based reminders for very small tasks. Because when they popup with reminders I should be able to take action on them immediately. So my guideline for creating a computer based reminder is: "The task should be of very small duration preferably less than 5 minutes." For all tasks that take more than that time, I need to Plan and instead of doing that on an 'interruption' basis. Advantage #1: Availability. I have my planner with me. I take this planner with me always and even at home I use it. My planning for the day is done mostly at home when I have my morning coffee. I open my planner. Go through what happened yesterday and what tasks I need to postpone to today? I look at my monthly goals and see what needs to be done. Can this be done with a computer based reminder system? If so, how do you do it? You can post your views on this. Advantage #2: Jot down goals and lists I also use the planner to make lists of lot of things. Things I would like to do sometime in future. My personal goals and so many other things. During my daily planning routine I take a look into these pages and I realize my important goals on which I need to work on. And I also get to look at things I have accomplished. This acts as a motivating force when I start the day. All the topics I would like to share in my time management tips OR list of articles I would like to write for my homepage and a few pointers to them OR list of books I would like to read sometime in future and so on. My planner contains lot of information that comes to my mind. Because of this information is written down I somehow manage to achieve the goal when I find enough motivation. A simple example I can state is long time back someone recommended to me to read a book called 80/20 Principle. After 4 years I somehow managed to get the book and read it last month. |
