Take it
Easy Kishore C.S. (August
2000) One of the major lessons I
have learned through my US visits, we Indians take life too seriously. I
thought this was a conclusion I was jumping to. But when another colleague of
mine returned from a visit to Europe made the same remark I knew I was right. What are the aims of an average Indian in life? Earn good money and live a
happy life. But when? We all plan to earn money through
hard work and at the end of all the hard work enjoy life. What is that we should learn from other countries in
lifestyle? Understanding that doing
work or a business is one part of life and the ‘present’ should be enjoyed the
westerners take life very casually and they make every weekend a party time. I am not saying that we can
change overnight to their style of ‘partying’. We have to start taking a
life little less seriously. Do not be hard on yourself. Hard work is good but
there is a limit to the same. Do things that will reduce your stress.
Examples from other
countries may be in similar nature. When we hear of such
examples I wonder why we restrict ourselves from leading a comfortable and
contented life. We start with an assumption that we are leading a miserable
life and we should work hard to change all that. There are some villains in our
life who are against our happiness. Examples of the villains are The Government
which is not doing any thing for me, The society which does not let me be
happy, The family which does not make me do things in my own way etc. We create
fictitious villains in our minds and work hard to proving them all wrong. We
slog days and nights with hard work and finally at the end of it we still feel
the same miserable person. We don’t enjoy the present. There are limits to the
extent we can push ourselves. Do hard work during week days and enjoy the
present. Lead a contented life. RELAX. TAKE IT EASY. Don’t
hurry too much. Don’t attempt to do too many things at a time. Nothing serious
is going to happen even if you stop doing some things. We play with emotions day
in and day out. And make our life a stressful life. We don’t enjoy life and we
don’t let others enjoy at the same time by spreading the stressful vibrations
around us. In this article I am not suggesting that we should go the western way of going to bars and clubs and enjoy life. I am talking about creating an attitude that allows us to enjoy the ‘present’ every day and spread the happiness. Create your little dreams and realize them. Don’t wait for a long time to create a ‘happily ever after’ situation. This does not happen. Life will have its own ups and downs. Make every day worthwhile and being happy at the end of the day can make the life more enjoyable. I am not sure whether I am right completely about this but I have written what came to my mind. I have been attempting this change of attitude atleast in my life. Share your views on this by sending a mail to me to cskishore@yahoo.com Back |
