Learn and Implement

Kishore C.S. (December 2000)

If you have been reading my articles on my home page and been watching how the site has been either growing or changing, you would have noticed that I have been making an attempt to improve. I believe in continuous improvement and works toward the same.

How is it possible to make improvement continuously?

By Continuous Learning

How do you learn continuously?

By expanding one’s learning zone and using hobbies like reading, observation to learn

What should one focus on during learning process?

One should focus on solutions for problems. We are not alone in the world that we have unique problems. Everyone has same problems and some people manage to overcome the same by trying new methods. So Learn from Other’s experience. It is not possible to experience all the problems in the world and try our own methods. So the moment you encounter a problem look for experienced people. Ask them if you know them or read their works if you know the books written by them. I found this is the fastest way to learn avoid making mistakes.

How is it possible to implement?

Just do it. Once you are convinced about the other person’s experience which might have been earned by trail and error and the hard way, adapt the same and implement.

Any examples?

I have not limited my learning to my work but also my personal life. During my work, I would always consult the experts in the field whenever I face problems. This helps me in avoiding mistakes others have made.

I have learned and implemented many small improvements in my life. Some of the problems might be very big and some may be very small. But those methods helped.

Example 1: How do you achieve financial security?

Financial insecurity one major problem individuals are afraid of. And I also had the same. I was reading a book ‘The Richest man in Babylon’ by George S. Clason. In this book, a very easy and important means of becoming financially secure was given. Every month save 10% of your income for future and don’t spend the same. And always keep your expenses to 70% of your income. I found this a very useful tip and I started following this method. I soon found that I was able to save good money in a few months. Following this didn’t need much effort from me in terms of investment but the benefit I derived out of the same has been tremendous.

Example 2: Best way to learn tools and technology?

During my job, I have a need to learn and use lot of tools. It is not always possible to go through a structured training program as it involves lot of investment. With insufficient knowledge making best use of tools and technology is very difficult. I found going through documentation, manual, on-line help and books published are a great way to master tools and technology and the investment will go a long way in better execution of work. Ever since I have learned this lesson, I have started going through the manuals and all available documentation whenever I get time. I have been able to make best use of tools like MS-Project, ERWin Design Tool which helped me during my job.

These are just two examples I have given to reinforce how ‘learn and implement’ has helped me in my life. Also read all the articles that indicate ‘lessons learned’ in my home page and these are lessons learned through my experience and definitely going through them would be a useful investment. And also watch out more articles with the message of ‘lessons learned’.
