Experience 7: Clearing the Road Test

Continuing with the ‘Driving License’ Saga, I would also describe how I cleared the Road Test. As I explained earlier, having driving license at the earliest is the important thing for a easy life in US and at least in CA state where public transportation is less, it is becomes important.

I also need to state one more fact in my life where I failed once in driving test when I went for car driving test in India.

With this state of mind, I had my own worries about securing the final driving license. But I got lot of practice on driving since I rented a car after I got my temporary license. So I was more confident about clearing the road test.

I had appointment for Wednesday (Feb 14, 2001) to appear for road test. On Saturday (Feb 10,2001) the driving school person called me and said if I can appear on that day. I treated this sudden change also as a divine blessing. I immediately accepted the change and went to appear for the test.

As my faith and trust in divine grace increased compared to the time I took Written Test, I was not much worried, but nevertheless took name of the Lord before start of the test. As if to test my faith and confidence, I found the person who appeared for the test before me failed the test. But this fact did not shake my faith and I was confident that Lord’s Grace is on me and if I just rely on HIM and do my job, I would clear the test.

One should not make any critical errors and also should not make more than 15 driving errors. I was very happy when the test was success with only 11 overall errors.

End of the day what surprised me was without any planning, the task was completed ahead of schedule and to my happiness and I certainly treat this ‘clearing of hurdles’ as Lord Hanuman’s Infinite Grace. JAI SRIRAM, JAI HANUMAN.

Experiences 8: Stranger comes to Help

After coming to US in Dec 2000, I had to rely on help from friends for initial weeks. All my friends helped me a lot in settling down. I can understand friends coming to help, as they are concerned for us and take pains to help us especially in foreign lands.

For 10 days I stayed in corporate apartment which was 5 miles away from office. I had a friend by name Srinivas who used to pick me up and take me to office everyday. After 10 days, I moved to my new apartment that is 15 miles from office. I was hardly one week in the office, I don’t know anyone from whom I can ask for help. But I had FAITH. My wife was asking me how do I plan to come to office after we move to the apartment. She expressed surprise that I don’t seem to be bothered about that. It was my faith that helped me and was sure Lord will find someone to help him.

On Friday I thought of making enquiries in office. After I reached office, my colleague, who was sitting next to my cube, came and introduced himself. His name is Jack and he is Chinese and he said Hi to me and we started talking. I casually asked him where he stays. He told me he stays in Fremont which is where I am moving to. I next asked him where he stays in Fremont? He said he stays in Thornton Avenue, which is hardly 1.5 miles away from my house. Then I asked him whether he minds giving me a ride, because I don’t have a car. To which he agreed and for next one week, he used to pick me up from house and also we used to go back home together. It was a help I received and also from a stranger whom I would not have imagined. I was thinking of asking Indians who I thought I can ask without much embarrassment. But my problem was solved by LORD. I conveyed the same to my wife and she was also surprised and I told her again, one who Trusts in Lord will be helped by HIM.

Another strange thing that happened was, after one week I found help from a few other colleagues as Jack had some college to attend and he can’t help me.

After another week, he stopped coming to office and I didn’t know what happened. One day my colleagues told me that he has quit the company. Then it really got me thinking.

How it all happened? I realized it couldn’t be just a coincidence that a guy sitting next to me in my new office will happen to stay in a place where I am going to stay. And he joined just a month before I joined and leaves after 15 days the time I joined. Strange coincidence that he existed till I got his help and vanished after that. Is it divine force that held him to be here for 2 months? Is it coincidence? I believe this is all divine grace again in its strangest form that one cannot comprehend and it would be just ‘another coincidence’ for agnostics.
