During July 2000 first week my wife was suffering from vomiting
and we didn’t go to a doctor assuming that it might be a normal indigestion.
When it didn’t subside for more than 2 days, we consulted the doctor and he
also gave some normal medicine to reduce the vomiting. After 2 more days it was
severe and my wife became very weak and we had to rush to doctor. On seeing her
doctor immediately told her that she has jaundice and next day’s reported
confirmed the same. Because of the delay in treatment, Jaundice reached high
severity level of 7.8. Any doctor would be surprised at such a high level. This
happened a few weeks after my wife also took initiation from Guruji and Guruji
had given a ‘Patam’ or ‘Picture of Pancha Mukha Anjaneya’ to my wife to be used
during her pooja. He also told my wife to keep the picture with her always
whenever she travels.
After treatment of 5 days my wife recovered well and of
course she had to follow a diet for 3 months before she recovered completely.
In November 2000 I was reading famous a book ‘Autobiography
of a Yogi’. When I was reading the book, I came across a chapter where the Guru
saves a person from severe disease by giving a talisman to be kept with him.
Then it dawned upon me that our Guruji’s has foreseen that
my wife will get Jaundice and he has given Picture of Lord Hanuman to ward off
the disease. Without protection of the Lord the disease could have even proved
fatal and divine intervention saved my wife. I also recollect a remark from the
doctor who treated my wife. My wife was asking the doctor how long it would take
her to recover. He said: “You are having such a severe case of jaundice and it
is surprising that you are able to sit and talk”. I recollected this sentence
and then realized that it was only because of Lord’s blessings that my wife
could survive the jaundice and recover very fast.
Surviving in US without a car is a tough situation. We have
to appear for written test and clear the test and get a temporary permit before
getting permanent license. The exam is tough as it is said 3 out of 4 fail. One
should not make more than 5 mistakes out of 36 questions. As required for the
preparation, I got the rules and regulations manual from my friend and started
preparation. But I was highly nervous about the exam. My ability to move freely
in US without depending on friends/colleagues depends on how fast I can get a
driving license. This idea has been playing havoc in my mind, and I was getting
worried everyday. I felt this is a biggest exam for my life in past few years.
My experience in this matter played a great role in
strengthening my faith and confidence in Lord’s Grace in my life.
Exam Papers: I casually mentioned to
couple of my colleagues that I am going to take written test and two days
before the exam my colleague voluntarily came and gave me 5 sample question
papers which helped me a lot in preparing for the exam with more confidence. I
felt that Lord has sent my colleague to help me.
DMV Office: I have to take my exam in
Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office in our city. I found that DMV office
in our city in Fremont is the only office that operates on Saturday in our
state. I considered myself lucky that I can attend the test without having to
take a day off from work. My next problem was how to reach DMV office from my apartment
without any commute. I have to either request help from someone or take a taxi.
Finally I realized that DMV office is very near to our apartment (less than 2
miles) and I can walk the distance in less than half an hour. How convenient
was the situation. Is it really my luck?
The Exam: I had to stand almost 2 hours in
the queue before I was given the exam papers. As I was waiting in the queue
seeing others get their papers evaluated, I saw quite a few number of people
failed the exam and had to go back. I was already nervous and my nervousness
increased when I saw them. But I kept praying.
As I got the exam question paper in my hand, I was slightly
worried. I was able to answer around 25 questions with confidence and I had 10
questions which can make a difference in the overall results. For all the
questions I was not sure of I took name of Lord Sriram and Lord Hanuman before
selecting an answer and completed the paper. I approached the clerk in charge
for corrections with a slight worry. Just before handing over the paper I found
a stupid mistake and I corrected that also.
I was praying when the answers were being checked. To my
COMPLETE SURPRISE, I cleared the exam and I got only ONE question wrong. I
could not believe it. I was thinking I should just scrape through by getting 4
errors or I may even fail, but when I got the result, I was VERY HAPPY and from
that time onwards my faith in GOD increased in multiples and I always take up
any task only after taking name of LORD. JAI SRIRAM and JAI HANUMAN.
Added to that surprise, I got a temporary license instead of
a permit that entitles me to drive for 2 months because I had my Indian Car
License with me.
That day was one of the most emotional and happiest days in
my life. Imagining what happened on that, still reminds of the Grace of Lord
and it would be a sin on my part to claim any credit for the divine grace as
luck. I trust the LORD completely and continue to pray HIM always.
